Planes

Trailer: Planes - Disney

I have to admit, I didn't know that "Planes" existed! But, it turns out that Disney is essentially doing a companion piece to "Cars" by turning aircraft into characters, just like they did with autos.

Could be a fun film! The trailer is entertaining, using the vibe of "Top Gun" to get you into the mood! The movie is about a crop duster played by Dane Cook who wants to be a racer. He gets help from one of those naval fighters to help him achieve his dreams! Good animation, and since I'm a pilot, interesting for me at least! :-)

"In the House" will be in theaters August 9.

In the House

Trailer: In the House - Cohen Media Group

No, "In the House" isn't about the arrival of some rap star! "Big G is in the house!" Rather, it's a French film (yes, there are subtitles!) about a young writer seeking inspiration. He does this by getting himself into the house of a fellow student. His increasingly intrusive actions there propel his writing. He in turn attracts the attention of a teacher who becomes inspired by what he reads. But, all of it plunges all involved in trouble.

Looks like a very intriguing movie! What struck me most was how the French have learned well from Americans the art (if you would like to classify it as such!) of trailer making!

"In the House" will be in theaters April 19.

Oscar Throwdown!

Twitter: John Miller - Twitter

Here is a list of my (thoroughly!) snarky Oscars comments on Twitter tonight!:

 • If I ever get to the #Oscars I am going to make sure: When they ask "What are you wearing?" I'm gonna say with pride, K-Mart!

 • #Oscars Trivia Tidbit: This year, the show's orchestra played from the @CapitolRecords Building. Next year, it'll be from the South Pole!

 • This Just In: "Argo" falls under intense scrutiny when it's found out that mission never happened! Oops. #Oscars #DontYouHateWhenThatHappens

 • Next year, #Oscars Best Picture nominees will be expanded from nine films to every film released! Yes, even "The Last Exorcism - Part XXIV!"

 • Daniel Day-Lewis, with one joke, proves to be funnier than a whole night of Seth MacFarlane! DD-L wins! Again! :-) #Oscars

 • Hey! Thanks #Oscars for giving away the ending of #Flight to those who haven't seen it yet! Uh, #Spoiler Alert?

 • After the latest crowd shot, just to recap, Kristin Stewart looks reallllllllly out of it! #Oscars #KStew

 • World trying to recover from the shock that #Adele wins the newly-named Of-Course-Adele-Was-Going-to-Win-Silly-Person #Oscar for Best Song!

 • Regarding "Life of Pi" winning Best Score, CGI Tiger in the movie wins Best CGI Tiger #Oscar ! Well done. It was a tight race!

 • #Adele is fine and all, but Shirley #Bassey won the #Bond #Oscar sing-off handily!

 • In a surprise move, 20th Century-Fox hires the #Oscars student filmmakers to do the next #DieHard ! Hey, why the @$%# not?

 • John Williams is reaping in royalties tonight with the endless playing of his #Jaws theme as the official #Oscars get-the-&#$%-off music!

 • It's official! The talking puppet #Ted gives the night's best #Oscar performance! Take that DeNiro and fellow "actors!"

 • If this were "Farm Film Report and Celebrity Blow-Up," Hudson's song would be "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Exploding!" #Oscars #SCTV

 • Time to start predictions for next year's #Oscars ! "A Good Day to #DieHard " anyone? Thought not!

 • Wow! Could #ABC pump the volume any higher during the commercials? Heavens! #Oscars

 • Shirley #Bassey makes the #Oscars almost seem classy! You go girl! Note to you young songstresses! See if you can do this in a few decades!

 • Agreed that the "Life of Pi" VFX winners getting music'ed off was thoroughly ignorant! Their VFX house went bankrupt. C'mon! #Oscars

 • Ah! The awkward, uncomfortable #Oscars award introductions start with Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy. Ouch!

 • Debating whether MacFarlane's sock-puppet #Flight version was better than Denzel's! #Oscars

 • Kristin #Chenoweth on that #Oscar pre-show looked like she was going to disappear! Hopefully she won't have evaporated before the end!

 • The #Oscars Pre-Game Show (i.e. The Red Carpet Arrivals) on #ABC was kind of like watching "The View" with actors walking in!

Jack the Giant Slayer

Trailer: Jack the Giant Slayer - Warner Brothers

Bryan Singer, director of two "X-Men" movies, and the VERY unfortunate "Superman Returns," is back with "Jack the Giant Slayer."

Not surprisingly, there are LOTS of giants lumbering about, a massive beanstalk, and even a good ole "Fee Fi Fo Fum" uttered. Strangely, though, there is noisy rock music for a period adventure movie. I am guessing the rock stuff is to lure in the youngun's! As if orchestral background music would make that much of a difference. But, I guess Warner Brothers is playing to their intended audience!

As I mentioned, I thought "Superman Returns" was truly awful! I thought Singer badly botched that movie on every level: story, direction, casting, etc. Tons of money was spent, to no good effect. So, while the trailer for "Jack the Giant Killer" seems reasonable, it is hard to know whether Singer is back on his game or not! The poster pretty much acknowledges this, since they say "from the director of 'X-Men'" and not "Superman Returns!"

Kasdan Back on Star Wars!

Story: It's Official: 'Star Wars' Stand-Alone Films From Lawrence Kasdan, Simon Kinberg in Development - The Hollywood Reporter

Lawrence Kasdan is back on "Star Wars!" The screenwriter/director worked on the screenplays for both "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," as well as "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Disney has announced that he will be working on a stand-alone "Star Wars" film. This is going to be a film separate from the sequel trilogy that J.J. Abrams is working on.

Rumors have been swirling that Disney is wanting to do with "Star Wars" what Marvel does with "Iron Man" and "Thor," have stand-alone films with certain characters, separate from the ensemble pictures.

It isn't known if Kasdan will be just writing, or will be writing and directing his film.
